What to do in the event of a motor vehicle accident

AT THE SCENE

  1. Obtain the following particulars from the other party involved:

    • Name and address of owner of vehicle
    • Name and address of driver if different from the owner
    • Details of vehicle and type of damage sustained
    • Name of other party’s Insurance Company
    • Details of any injuries suffered

  2. Have your vehicle secured and moved to a safe location. Please note that many repair shops and wrecking companies charge a daily fee for storage of your vehicle. It would be prudent to ascertain this, before leaving your vehicle in their custody, as storage is not covered under your policy of insurance.

  3. Report the accident to the nearest police station within twenty-four (24) hours.
  4. AFTERWARDS

  5. Have an estimate of the damage to your vehicle prepared by your repairer for submission to your Insurer.

  6. Report the accident immediately to our office by completing an accident report form available at your broker, agent or any branch of NEM Insurance Company.

  7. When reporting the accident you need to let us have a copy of the Certificate of Fitness, Registration Certificate and Driver’s licence. Please note that the Accident Report Form must be signed by both the Insured and the driver at the time of the accident.

  8. If the vehicle is owned by a company, the company stamp or seal should be affixed to the Accident Report Form along with the signature of the company representative.
